The Banning Unified School District proudly recognized three outstanding seniors—Adrian Casillas, Oscar Ochoa, and Alyssa Sanchez—during the annual Student of the Year Dinner held on May 8, 2025, at the Noble Creek Community Center in Beaumont. The event, a collaboration between Banning and Beaumont Unified School Districts, celebrated seniors from both districts for their academic achievements, character, and community involvement.
Each Student of the Year recipient received a graduation medallion and cord presented by Assistant Superintendent Dr. Tonia Causey-Bush, alongside a $1,500 scholarship. In addition, Banning High School senior Alyssa Sanchez was awarded the prestigious $1,000 Amy Herr Scholarship, given to a student who exemplifies service, leadership, and resilience.
“Oscar, Adrian, and Alyssa are more than high-achieving students—they are compassionate leaders and changemakers,” said Superintendent Davis. “Their stories reflect the heart of Banning Unified: perseverance, pride, and purpose.”
Oscar Ochoa, from New Horizons High School, was celebrated for his leadership, positivity, and creativity. He led the school’s Haunted House event, bringing peers together to create a memorable experience for the school community. An aspiring entrepreneur, Oscar plans to attend the Inland Empire Center for Entrepreneurship to pursue his dreams.
Adrian Casillas, a senior at Banning High School, was recognized for his athleticism and resilience. A standout varsity soccer player, Adrian has demonstrated balance between sports and academics and hopes to pursue a career in public service as a firefighter or first responder.
Alyssa Sanchez, also from Banning High School, received the Amy Herr Scholarship for her exceptional commitment to academics, leadership, and community service. Alyssa continues to make a positive impact on campus and in the community through her efforts to uplift others.
The Student of the Year Dinner marks the culmination of the Student of the Month program, which runs from September to April, recognizing students who exemplify academic excellence, leadership, and integrity. Banning’s honorees stood out among a pool of 28 senior students across the region.
Banning Unified School District congratulates these exceptional students for representing the District with excellence and looks forward to the remarkable futures ahead of them.
